WAYS TO HELP US FURTHER THE WORK
The easiest way for you to send stamps to us is with a small margin of paper on all four sides of the stamp. A margin of around an eighth of an inch (2-4mm) is ideal. A single thickness of backing paper is required. Our postal address: 11 St. John's Drive, Chaddesden. Derby, DE21 6SD. Stamps that are damaged in any way are of no use to the work, nor are stamps, which have been cancelled with a pen by hand. So please do not send stamps to us that are torn, have biro marks on them, sellotape on the stamps or those that have been used on receipts. Most sorts are now sold mixed by weight.- On paper & Off paper. If you can sort your stamps into the following nine groups, it will further assist the work:- 1. Small size British Queen Elizabeth stamps, all values 1p – 26p. . 2. Small size British Queen Elizabeth stamps only those with no value 1st or 2nd. 3. Small size British Queen Elizabeth stamps values from 27p - £5. Also stamps printed E as the value. (E value covers postage to Europe.) 4. Small size British Queen Victoria - King George V1. 5. Christmas Large and small size stamps from any year 1966 to the present time. 6. All other large size British stamps, together with Channel Isles & the Isle of Man. 7. Regional, small size stamps issued by England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. 8. Large size Commonwealth and Foreign, including Eire stamps. 9. Small size Commonwealth and Foreign stamps. Do not sort them into different countries, they are mainly sold by size of stamp. Group number six is the most important one of all, as these stamps bring in around five times as much money as sort number one. If you receive any postage due, To pay, Greetings or T.V. licence stamps "Perfins": - stamps with holes punched through them. "Se Tenants": -These are stamps with different values joined together by perforations. Please do not separate these, and please put them into group six.. If sending stamps off paper sorts 1 and 2 can be mixed as they are now sold mixed by weight, as there are now no companies in the UK making packets. An increasing number of our supporters send their stamps to us washed clean of the backing paper, not only does this save them postage, but a more money can be obtained for the stamps. If you wish to help in this way to wash the backing paper off the stamps, start by placing a handful at a time in a wash basin of cold or warm water and leave them for a few minutes so that the stamps slide easily off the backing. The stamps are then put on a newspaper or cloth to dry. When they are fully dry, they are then put into an envelope to keep them flat. More and more stamps are now "Self Adhesive" so when washing make sure that the stamp is completely clean of backing and adhesive. The 2008 Christmas stamps cannot be washed, so they are all sold on small paper backing. The most recent NVI's (1st and 2nd) class GB stamps are part of anti fraud campaign by Royal Mail GB stamps to stop stamps being washed clean of backing. A number of other countries recent stamps cannot be washed clean of backing, a blow to stamp collecting. However we would suggest that you don’t wash stamps that are on coloured paper (red, blue, yellow, etc), as the colour tends to run on to other stamps that are in the water. The stamps on coloured paper are sold on paper in the various sorts listed above. You can help us in this way and sort the stamps into nine groups, it will speed their sale and it would be very much appreciated. If you feel that you cannot help in any of the ways mentioned above, please continue to send your stamps as you have always done, and we will do the rest with the help of others. When sending washed, or mint stamps to us please keep separate from those on paper and pack them in a small size envelope to save the stamps creasing. Above all please encourage all your friends to save their stamps for you, so that you can pass them to us. We suggest you send packages by the cheapest method, at the present time you can send items up to 1000gram by second class mail by the Royal Mail. As a lot of post offices now use labels for postage, which we cannot use, but you can ask them to use stamps on your packets. Please check you pay the correct postage as we cannot accept packages with a surcharge to pay. It would benefit the work if you could pay for the postage with mint stamps. As we get more money for British commemoratives they are the ones to use, especially the E value. We will only acknowledge one gift each year when we will send our annual report with our "Thank you letter", in order to keep our costs down so that more money can be given to missions. If you wish us to thank you for every gift please enclose an SAE, or send us an Email giving your Email address, or a landline telephone number we can then keep you up to-date with the latest news as it happens. If you don't have an Email Address perhaps someone in your fellowship could accept our mailings. We can also make good use of picture postcards whether or not they have been through the mails, please leave any stamps on them, as sometimes these increase the value of the postcards. Cigarette & Tea cards can also be used. We can find no market for G.B. empty stamps booklets.
